Detailed Walkthrough

Read the following for a more detailed description as well as recommendations on how to install WordPress on your GoferHost cloud hosting account. For this walkthrough, we will be using the domain `wackylife.com`. Replace this domain with your domain when you follow these steps.

1. Login to your cPanel

Your cPanel is where you control all aspects of your hosting account. Step 1 is to login to your cPanel by visiting your domain followed by /cpanel and enter your username and password that you would have received in your welcome email.

2. Find the software installer section

Type in `softaculus` (or scroll down until you see the `Wordpress`) and click on `Wordpress` icon as shown in the image:

3. Click the ‘Install Now’

Clicking the install now will start the process of installing WordPress in your hosting account.

4. Software Setup: choose protocol and set directory

In the Software Setup section we recommend using the ‘https://www.’ protocol. In the Choose Domain option, your domain should already be set. The ‘In Directory’ is where WordPress will be installed. If you make this blank, WordPress will install in the root of your domain which is usually recommended, but you can put your WordPress install in any directory you wish.

5. Fill out Admin Account Section

Supply a username, strong password and email for the admin account. Please use a strong password and make sure you remember it.

We recommend clicking on ‘Limit Login Attempts (loginizer)’. This is optional but will install the Loginizer plugin that will limit the number of incorrect password attempts and is a good initial line of defense on protecting your website.

6. Fill out Advanced Options (optional)

You can leave the default options for database name and table prefix but we recommend checking the 3 checkboxes. WordPress updates often with security fixes so it is recommended to allow WordPress to automatically update itself, plugins and themes.

7. Click Install

Finally, click install and your new WordPress will be installed and ready for you to login after 1-3 minutes. Once installation is complete, you can visit your website to see the default theme. If you want to login to WordPress, add a /wp-admin on the end of your domain and login with your username and password you created in step 5.
